The Olmstead Discussion (Which Im sorry that I missed)
Although I was absent when this historic event took place, I am prepared to write about it. According to my fellow friends/classmates posts, I have learned a lot of what went down on this memerable day.
From what I’ve read, there is a lot more going on in Iraq that I didn’t quite know about. Ali says:
I learned that many non-U.S. in Iraq exist: the Sunni Arab insurgency, Shiite militias and death squads, Al Qaeda and widespread criminality.
Also, Ryan said:
Today’s essential question from class was this: Now that we have stirred conflict in Iraq, are we obligated to stay and help find a solution?
Concerning all the problems in Iraq, I think the U.S should stay even longer to find a solution. Iraq is not yet fully restored, and as Ali said, there are many other conflicts still arising in the country. I think, at least for now, we need to keep our troops there to aid and assist the rebuilding of that nation. When that is done however, I would be the first to send them back home. I agree with Ryan Ha. because we were essentially the ones who started the problems there in the first place, considering there was no trace of weapons of mass destruction. Considering we started all these problems, we are absoutly obligated to stay in Iraq until this mess is sorted out.
